Dickens Manor – Designer Furniture In Australian Homes
Under the expert hand of Doherty Design Studio, Dickens Manor, a former wedding venue in Elwood Victoria, has undergone a full renovation to bring it back to its Art Deco glory. The period home is a manor by name and by nature also. With all the grandeur and detailing you would expect, Dickens Manor has been revitalised into a contemporary home complete with a new colour palette inspired by the Mediterranean, designer furniture Australia throughout and even a 25m lap pool. It has all the trimmings, in the perfect balance.
Doherty were challenged, as all renovators of old homes are, to work with, not against the manors quirks and historical attributes. The goal was to develop simple, uncluttered spaces all while maintaining the inherent glamour of the property. The Great Gatsby was the inspiration for the interiors, evident in the grand entrance with the chandelier in brass and white glass and the plush furnishings found throughout the home.
Carrying the glamourous theme through the living rooms with a palette of gold cabinetry, emerald and ruby jewel toned chairs Doherty have found the perfect balance of old and new. With newly lightened timber floors and crisp white walls, the natural light flows and shines on the luxury modern furniture, illuminating what is not only luxe but comfortable as well as highlighting the original ceiling and cornice detail of the home.
Moving through the rest of the home the designers have ensured light is key, with the rooms being inviting and bright. Pared back design allows the crisp lines of the home and special additions such as copper detailing to shine. Plush soft furnishings in the jewel tones found in the living room are carried through to the bedrooms and create the perfect sanctuary.
Doherty Design Studio have expertly balanced the brief for this home with comfort and glamourous minimalism sitting perfectly alongside one another. Theyve taken a grandiose Manor and created a home.
